Olympia

Olympia is one of the most important archaeological sites world-wide since it is the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Every four years the Olympic flame is lit here and then starts its journey. Other monuments are the temples of Zeus and Hera, the Hippodrome, the Palestra and the Olympic Academy. The local museum boasts of the beautiful statue of Hermes of Praxiteles.
