How to get there from Athens: by
ferry (minimum 16 hours) or by plane (1 hour).
Some of the places of
interest: the island’s capital with medieval town
(built by the Knights of St. John), ancient acropolis, Byzantine and Turkish
monuments, Mandraki harbour, Murat Reis mosque, various churches. Dominant in
the medieval town is the Grand Master’s Palace. Other sites outside Rhodes town,
are the site of Ialyssos, Lindos,
and Kamiros, the church of the Virgin in
Fileremos, the Valley of the
Butterflies, the impressive fortress in Monolithos
and the village of Embonas, one of the most picturesque
ones.
