Santorini – Akrotiri excavations & Fira town (SAN-001) |
|
By boat / motorcoach / cable car / foot |
|
Depart the ship by local tender to Athinios Harbour to join your guide. The outstanding vistas unfolding as the motorcoach ascends the serpentine road to the top of the cliff are breathtaking. Beautiful pottery decorates entrances and squares in a city 3500 years old. Let your imagination picture a day's activities as your guide relates the history of this fascinating place. Could it have been the lost city of Atlantis perhaps? Your tour continues through the windblown volcanic landscape, cultivate with low laying vineyards producing the very famous Santorinian wines, to arrive in Fira, the capital town of Santorini. Perched at the edge of the cliff, it affords panoramic views of the Caldera below, overlooking the ship at anchor. Santorini – Sailing & Volcano (SAN-006) |
|
By caique / motorcoach |
|
Enjoy a cruise around the
active crater of Nea Kameni islet. Sail along the peculiar formations of
its volcanic shores, where black lava rocks and white pumice are combined
beautifully with the red color of lava. Take a walk to the top of the
volcanic island where sulphur is spewed into the air by one of the
craters. Enjoy this surreal landscape as your guide narrates the creation
and history of the volcano and the last eruption leading to the
destruction of the island of Santorini. The tidal wave created by the
eruption was of such an immense magnitude, it destroyed the thriving city
of Knossos on the island of Crete. |

¨ A strenuous uphill/downhill walk is involved to reach the crater.
¨ We recommend light dress, comfortable enclosed flat shoes, hat, sunglasses and bottled water.
¨ You may wear your swimwear under your clothes or should you wish to change on board the caique, please note you will be using the rest rooms for changing. Do not forget your towel and sunscreen.
